Autumn is officially here and with it comes more time spent indoors, the central heating cranked up to the max (or is that just me?) and when we are outside the wind, rain and cold, bitterly bites at our sensitive skin. I’m not painting a pretty picture am I? Come back summer! All of this can lead to dehydrated, flaky skin and us reaching for a rich moisturiser that can simply be too much.
Having heard down the beauty grapevine that adding a simple serum step into your routine (after cleansing and before moisturising), can be the way forward to sooth and keep skin hydrated at this time of year, I decided to hunt down the perfect product.
I have long been a lover of Avene skincare; a French brand whose products are rich in Avene Thermal Spring Water that has been clinically proven to be naturally soothing, anti-irritating and anti-free radical (perfect for us sensitive souls) and so decided to give the Avene Soothing Hydrating Serum a try.
I purchased the serum a week before going on holiday, so it was going to be perfectly put to the test. Throughout a week in wind-swept Blighty and then a week in blazing Greek sunshine, dehydrated skin of the worst degree was definitely going to be the challenge.
After cleansing and toning your skin, pump a small amount of the hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic serum onto your hand or fingertips and apply to your face and neck. Leave to soak in for a few minutes before applying your daily moisturiser. The serum should be used morning and night for best effects.
The formula is silky smooth and you actually feel like you can tell that there’s rich water within it as you spread it onto your skin. The light and delicate serum swiftly sinks in, primed and ready for your moisturiser.
After a few days use (even with wind-whipped and sun-beaten skin) you can visibly notice the difference. Your skin really does feel more soft, supple, dewy and smooth and of course rehydrated. It is plump to the touch and more-healthy looking. Gone are any dry and sensitive patches and flakes are no longer a foe. As the serum contains a high level of water and doesn’t add any oil you can continue to use this product come rain or shine. I would highly recommend it for those needing extra hydration from your beauty regime. I’m totally sold.
Avene products are available within larger Boots stores. Boots regularly hold 3 for 2 offers on skincare, which includes products from this range (plus, you get your Advantage Card points of course!).
