You Mean The World To Me

On Friday You Mean The World To Me had the pleasure of attending the latest in the Victoria and Albert Museum’s ‘Fashion In Motion’ series of live events set within the classical Raphael Gallery, which invite a broader audience to enjoy the catwalk experience and be up close and personal to iconic designer’s.

Friday’s fashion event was celebrating 25 years of one of our favourite bridal and evening wear designers – Jenny Packham. Four catwalk-shows presented a selection of the designer’s favourite and most glamorous gowns from her elegant past collections, frequently worn by Hollywood stars and Royalty alike.

Jenny Packham said: ‘Our 25th year provides the perfect timing to take part in Fashion in Motion, which will present looks from past collections and include some of our most iconic pieces. It’s a pleasure to be able to present these within the inspiring space of the V&A’s Raphael Gallery’.

The grand Raphael Gallery – a perfect backdrop to Jenny Packham’s timeless evening wear – was packed with guests, buzzing with excitement for the show to start as the room lights dimmed.

Long limbed, lean models wore soft, natural make-up, their poker straight hair pulled into a simple, low ponytail – ensuring all eyes were firmly fixed on the dresses. One after another, the models gracefully glided past like floating angels, walking in silent rhythm to the classical beats, amplified by the towering domed ceiling.

Each of the exquisite dresses featured Jenny Packham’s signature style; with cinched in waists or feminine floating chiffon and of course glittering embellishments gleaming in the bright lights and dazzling the audience. A red flash of Louboutin sole could just be seen beneath the floor sweeping dresses – each one breathtaking and at the same time, so wearable (should such an occasion ever arise, except from our wedding day!!).

A wave from Jenny Packham at the end of the show was met with a raucous round of applause and a standing ovation – well deserved for this hugely successful, highly recognised and much loved British designer.
