Maracas are a pretty percussion instrument that originated in Latin America. They tend to be made in bright celebratory colours (although you can have them custom made to perfectly match your wedding theme) and they certainly add a fiesta flair to a destination wedding!
Personalised maracas would make unique wedding favours for your guests to have fun with on your wedding day and to take away as a memento. Give your guests their maracas at the wedding ceremony and ask them to shake them wildly when you and your groom have your first kiss! Or brighten up your wedding tables with your colourful maracas as part of each guest’s table place setting.
Buy these marvellous musical favours online before you jet off to your abroad wedding or purchase them once you arrive…but only if you’ve already been on a recce to your wedding location and you know for certain that you can pick them up there!

These beautiful ceramic tile coasters are ‘more then just coasters’ they are ‘little squares of happiness’ says their maker Tilissimo at Etsy, and I would wholeheartedly agree!
There are so many delightful styles to choose from, so be sure to take a peek at the Tilissimo at Etsy shop and browse the full collection!
I love the travel themed tiles (of course) but I think that they would all make great wedding presents or thank you gifts or they could be used to decorate your wedding tables, one for each guest, to be taken home from your destination wedding as a favour. They would brighten your wedding tables or continue your travel theme and make unusual gifts. The customised number tiles could also be used to display your wedding tables numbers.
So if you’ve taken to these tiles as much as me, you’ll be picking up a set for your home, for gifts and for your destination wedding!

A popular idea in the wonderful world of weddings is the welcome bag. What a lovely surprise for guests who are arriving at a destination wedding and there to greet them is a wonderful welcome bag, especially if they have travelled a long way.
The welcome bag works best if guests are all staying at the same hotel of course, otherwise depositing bags all over town could be a challenge! Keep your wedding theme or colours running through the welcome bag as this is the first introduction when your guests arrive.
It will be an extra expense, however you could opt for a welcome bag instead of having favours on your tables on the big day, or it could be an original idea for thank you gifts for the main bridal party or your nearest and dearest. It’s a great way to say thank you for being here and for travelling all this way to see us tie the knot.
Go local! Source the contents for your welcome bag when you arrive at your destination. This will ensure you give your guests a taste of the region and means you don’t have to transport items if you are having a destination wedding. Opt for practical gifts that guests can actually use on the trip, rather than ones that they have to take home.
Wrap it up
Paper bags, canvas totes, vintage boxes or baskets – keep your welcome container simple and cost effective.
You can find cute canvas bags and personalised totes on websites such as Etsy, notonthehighstreet.com and many more, but don’t forget High Street stores like Primark, H&M and Topshop as they create well priced tote bags all year round – they won’t be personalised but they come in pretty prints and will make a great beach bag or use-again gift.
More than words
Add a ‘welcome’ and ‘thank you for coming’ card or letter to your welcome bag.
You could also write your more personal thank you cards for your bridal party, parents and anyone who has especially helped with organising the wedding and have these in your welcome bags.
Show your guests that your destination wedding is first class with these chic and unique, wedding favour ideas.
Not only are they pretty, but they’re practical too; unless you source your favours on arrival at your wedding destination, you will need to carry them out with you and your guests will need to pack them and bring them home too – so in this instance, size matters!
Blinded by our love
Inexpensive sunnies make a fun favour for an outdoor summer wedding.
Heart shaped, brightly coloured, comedy or personalised shades will not only ensure that your guests can keep their peepers on you throughout the whole day, but they’ll make for some great photo opportunities too.
