If you’re getting married abroad, a love of travel and discovering new places is no doubt at the core of your decision to jet-off and host a destination wedding.
With this united passion for wanderlust in mind, this week sees the start of a new series on the blog: Travel Diaries.
Many of the tremendously gifted photographers that generously share the weddings they have photographed with this blog, also travel the world for destination weddings and of course on personal voyages too.
Travel Diaries will be bringing you stunning snapshots from all of your favourite photographers as they explore every corner of the globe. They’ll also be sharing their experiences, the must-visit hotspots they find along the way and some top travellers tips too.
So, it gives me great pleasure to introduce the first Travel Diaries feature! Michael and Andrea of Bohemian Weddings are as passionate about travel as they are photography. Their atmospheric pictures (shot mostly on film) of their exploration of the unspoilt Algarve will have you longing for quiet white sand coves and the sunshiny days of southern Portugal’s shores.
Kate & Josh ♥ Hertfordshire, England
Photographer: Bohemian Weddings
For those of you who read the blog in the UK we are not going to travel too far today! This delightful DIY wedding took place on a fabulous farm deep in the Hertfordshire countryside.
Kate and Josh turned this country farm venue into a carnival of colours; pretty ribbons, bright blooms, vibrant red bridesmaid dresses and some of the best DIY details I’ve seen added pops of colour and personality.
An elegant garden marquee was decked with pretty lanterns, super-sweet bunting and not forgetting a mouth-watering naked cake to deliver a rustic and rural finish. And check out the cheerful red balloon send off – such a steal-worthy idea!
Not only did this cute couple create an adorable wedding crammed with character, but they also smiled and laughed with their guests throughout the whole day, their love for one another clear to see…

Italian weddings always look incredible! Each one seems to be oh-so-effortlessly chic and naturally beautiful, filled with family, friends, love and laughter, with a banquet of wonderful food, a non-stop flow of lovely, local vino (of course!) and surrounded by rolling rural hills or sunlit village streets and beautiful buildings.
Today’s real wedding is no exception. Bianca and Francesco had a traditional village wedding in a charming chapel, followed by a relaxed garden party reception. The gifted guys from Bohemian Weddings were there to capture the essence of this darling day and they are here today to they tell you more about this idyllic Italian village wedding…
“Bianca and Francesco held their wedding in a beautiful hilltop town called Bagnoregio where Bianca grew up. It is about an hours drive from Rome and surrounded by beautiful countryside and full with a maze of narrow streets where everyone knows each other.”
When you’re getting married abroad, knowledge is power as you’re stepping slightly into the unknown! So, wouldn’t it be great to get some expert advice and helpful hints from knowledgable peeps within the wedding industry? This is especially true when it comes to booking vendors for your destination wedding.
Bohemian weddings are on hand today with guidance on things to consider along with some top tips on how to choose a destination wedding photographer for your worldwide wedding….
Put simply, destination weddings are beautiful…..there are so many pluses in having a ceremony in another country it would be difficult to acknowledge them all. You virtually get to pick your weather and location, from sunny beaches to Italian vineyards the choice really is yours. However planning a wedding in your ideal location, with the details you have in mind in another country can take some time and effort.
There is much to be done in terms of researching and contacting vendors so that you can really have your day the way you want it. The perfect location you have been dreaming about and spent hours researching is at least a plane ride away so you can’t necessarily meet all of the vendors involved face to face, so it is great that blogs such as You Mean The World To Me exist as it bridges the gap between you and inspirational trusted vendors.
Finding the right wedding photographer is actually pretty simple and choosing a destination photographer doesn’t have to be difficult either. Here’s our guide on how to choose a destination wedding photographer for your worldwide wedding….
First of all know that you have options. These options will vary dependant on two main factors that every couple getting married should consider before seeking out any vendors. Firstly how important your wedding photos are to you and secondly budget, preferably in that order. Everyone is different and that it is a good thing! So for me or anyone else to say that you should spend a certain percentage of your budget on a photographer is impossible. We don’t know what aspects are most important to you or what your budget is or your plan for the day.
This is the hard part….it is down to you as a couple to work out your budget and what elements are most important to you. Luckily there are options to suit all budgets so once you have had a real hard think about all aspects of your wedding, the allocated budget and what you feel is most important you can then start your search.
Whether you are having a wedding close to home or you’re getting married abroad, you will want to ensure that you choose the right wedding photographer for you and your wedding.
The perfect wedding photographer will suit your wedding needs, be the perfect style of photography that you were hoping for and of course fit within your budget…as well as deliver you with the most perfect pictures of your special day so that you can cherish the memories and remember all of the small details and magical moments for years afterwards. Phew! Not asking for a lot then?!
So, how do you go about choosing the right wedding photographer? Destination wedding photographer duo Bohemian Weddings are here to help today with a guest blog post with their top tips on how to choose the right wedding photographer….
There are three simple things to bear in mind when looking for your perfect photographer. If you can match these three points then you will be happy, your photographer will be happy and your photos will ooze happiness.
Take time to really look at a number of photographer’s websites and wedding blogs. There are many styles and approaches, some you won’t like, some you will like and some you will love. When you come across ones you love really dig deep and go as far as the photographers about page. See how they describe their style….. reportage, candid, fine art, relaxed, bohemian, vintage…..there will be certain words you will see again and again. That is the style you love.
Vicky & Matt ♥ Hertfordshire, England
Photographer: Bohemian Weddings
It’s St George’s Day today and what better way to celebrate England’s national day than with a garden party wedding?
Vicky and Matt tied the knot in a quaint countryside village church in Hertfordshire, before celebrating in the garden, enjoying the late summer sun and some bubbles (in the form of champagne and blowing bubbles!). An impressive tipi was filled with fairy lights to create a unique venue for the wedding breakfast.
From the blackberry-filled bridal bouquet and buttonholes, to the white cab wedding transport and the bright red post box for the wedding cards, today’s back garden wedding was intimate, sweet and oh-so-English.
“Vicky and Matt’s wedding was a small English country wedding, set in the lovely Hertfordshire countryside. They held their ceremony in St Mary’s Church in Rickmansworth, as Vicky grew up in a nearby village, where her mum still lives.”
“Vicky and Matt opted for a simple but elegant white cab to be transported in and their reception was held in Vicky’s mum’s garden – the perfect venue!”
