Rock-A-Bye Baby Shower

Over the beautiful, sunny bank holiday weekend (where has that weather gone?!), myself and a few friends hosted a baby shower. Not liking to do anything the ‘traditional’ way, this baby shower was not only for the girls! We invited the hubby’s and boyfriends along too.

If you’re also hosting an upcoming baby shower, here’s some baby shower ideas, games and a baby shower quiz for inspiration…

Being relatively new to the world of baby showers – having only attended a few previously – we were all really excited to be hosting this special event for both the mummy and daddy-to-be. Taking our knowledge and experience of organising hen parties (obviously minus a few elements, like plastic willy straws etcetera!), we knew we wanted lots of pretty, some fun games and above all, we wanted the future parents to feel really special; all this without alienating the guys by going all-out girly.

Not knowing the sex of the baby, we went for a unisex theme having found a cute range of teddy bear and rocking horse print products called Rock-A-Bye Baby. See the full collection on notonthehighstreet.com

Lovely long lazy lunch

A table was booked for our girl/guy group at a restaurant in the West Midlands, a mid-way meeting point. The Beeches Bar & Grill is an attractive Georgian Pub, in the quaint village of Hampton-In-Arden. Fantastic, fresh and tremendously tasty food is served within an inviting and homely atmosphere with views over the surrounding, rolling countryside.

Baby shower balloons lined the table along with favour bags, filled with little sweet treats for each guest.

After lunch (the non-pregnant!) attendees sipped on glasses of refreshing Pimms in the garden. Well, there’s no ‘official’ start time for wetting the baby’s head is there?!

Afternoon tea

Once we were all happy with our sufficiently pink noses and random little strips of sunburn from an enjoyable afternoon in the sunshine (so British!), the baby shower group de-camped to one of our homes.

The house was decorated with bunches of bright tulips, homemade strings of bunting and typically 80s looking photos of the parents-to-be as babies. Cute cupcakes, pretty sweet treats of marshmallows and donuts, bright pink bottles of Raspberry Lemonade (and the odd bottle of Prosecco) gave an afternoon tea feel to the on-going party.

Although claiming to be full from the three-course meal at the restaurant, a good attempt was made to get through all of the treats… maybe we all subconsciously decided we were eating for two!

Baby books

Every guest was asked to bring along their favourite childhood or nursery book as a gift for the baby, then the parents-to-be had to guess who bought which book. It was wonderful seeing some of the old classics that we had loved as children: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, FunnyBones, The Jolly Postman, Meg and Mog, Peter Rabbit, Fantastic Mr Fox, the Little Miss books and Sometimes by Emma Dodd, to name just a few.

The grandparents quiz

We asked the future grandparents questions about the mum and dad-to-be when they were babies. What day were they born on, what was their favourite book and toy, what did they want to be when they grew up etc, and then quizzed them both on the answers.

Baby quiz

Everyone loves a good quiz! If you’re hosting a baby shower, why not get everyone’s competitive streak going and test your guest’s knowledge in a baby shower quiz? Don’t forget to have a prize ready for the winning team.

Here’s some celeb, TV and film focused quiz questions that I came up with for our baby shower quiz, to get you started!
