Holly & Richard   ♥   Can Gall, Ibiza

Photographer:   Ana Lui Photography

This darling couple first met on the wonderful White Isle of Ibiza and so of course it only seemed right for them to tie the knot on this idyllic island. They decided upon the breathtaking rural location of Can Gall Agroturismo Hotel, a beautifully restored Ibiza finca hidden away in a tranquil setting in the North, surrounded by fruit and olive trees and pine covered mountains.

Holly and Richard truly show that getting married abroad and having a destination wedding does not mean that you can’t add your own personal style to your day. From wonderfully rustic wedding touches such as white wicker hearts and lanterns hanging in the trees to delightful DIY details like their fancy photo booth, Holly and Richard had their day their way.

Bright pops of sunshiny yellow and an ingenious haven of hay bales that they had imported from home to create a chill-out area, finish this day off with flair! The tremendously talented team at Ana Lui Photography were there to capture all of the fun-filled moments of this charming day…including an impromptu trash the dress session at the end of the evening, don’t miss it!

Holly says:

“We met in Ibiza on 17th June 2008, five years later to the day we got married and there was only one place it could be and that was Ibiza.”

“We looked for a wedding planner and found the fantastic Vickki at Eat Ibiza and we arranged to go and view some venues. We’d initially written Can Gall off as we wanted a big white Ibizan Villa but after viewing Can Gall we knew that was our wedding venue. We wanted somewhere where our family could stay together and have the venue and accommodation all in one place.”

“We spent ages trying different themes and different colours for the wedding until one-day Ric’s sister tried on this yellow Ted Baker dress and we knew that was going to set the theme for the wedding. We wanted a bright rustic theme with sunflowers, butterflies etc. For our table names we used the names of each club in Ibiza including Bora Bora Beach as that’s where we met. Underneath the table names we then wrote a little sentence about our favourite memory we have shared together at that club/venue to add a personal little touch.”

“We had a chill-out area with Shisha and big cushions to relax on. The food was to die for, we honestly had so many compliments about the food and being big dessert lovers we went for an amazing dessert table that went down a treat for everyone.”

“Vickki our wedding planner said she knew Lovely Laura Sax who we have seen many times at Es Paradis, playing their Hed Kandi evenings so as soon as Vickki mentioned this we knew we had to book her. We booked Lovely Laura and Tyrell to play during the drinks service in the day which was Balearic Unplugged so all acoustic and beautiful and then we arranged for her and Ben Santiago to come back in the evening for the party – it was fabulous!”

“We bought many little trinkets over the year on the lead up to our wedding and also with the set for the photo booth. We arranged for some stuff to be couriered over, including the hale bales that were purchased from a farm near us in Leicester.”

“The stationery was designed by Ric’s brother and we spent the morning of the wedding putting all of the bits together: the lavender bath bombs into little gift boxes for the women and CD’s with our wedding music for the guys which we had printed with a picture of the island of ibiza with a heart near the location of our wedding venue.”

“My dresses were a nightmare! I brought a dress initially which I felt a bit pressured into putting down a deposit and then I hated it. I cried and just ended up cancelling it and losing my deposit..Then every dress I tried on I loved, but there were two styles in particular that I loved – Jenny Packham and the ruffled bottom type. I was conscious of getting a big dress as knew it was going to be hot but after trying it on I knew I had to have it. I then had a second appointment an hour later which I felt rude cancelling so I went and that’s where I saw the Victoria Jane, Jenny Packham style dress with a gorgeous embellished back. I had to have it…I went home and cried yet again not knowing what to do. I actually remember sitting in the bath and having an epiphany – I’m just going to get both – so I did!”

“After deciding to change the dresses around I knew I had to go for the smoky eye with the champagne dress and muted lips. Ric’s suits and the boys suits were a complete surprise also as Ric wanted to keep them a secret like my dress and on the day we couldn’t believe it – he had gone for a gorgeous beige colour and my dress was champagne so they matched perfectly! Even the mother of bride and groom had champagne coloured dresses!”

“I got a bit over excited towards the end of the evening and managed to persuade my bridesmaids to jump in the pool with me fully clothed – this was a fantastic way to end the evening! Although didn’t actually realise how heavy my dress would be wet!!”

What were your highlights and your favourite memories from the day?

  • “The main highlight was seeing Ric’s face as I walked down the aisle – was priceless… I’d kind of giving him a bit of a curveball with my dress so he was really surprised… Then absolutely everything else – was seriously the most incredible day of our lives – we still talk about it now – wish we could rewind a year to do it all again!”

Do you have any advice for couples who are looking to get married in Ibiza?

  • “Find a really good reputable wedding planner, they really know their stuff and for us made it so much more stress-free. Go for a tasting of your meal and plan which month you get married in as you don’t want it to be super hot on your wedding day and if you do, get a dress to match!”

Would you do anything differently?

  • “To be totally honest I wish I had of thought about my evening dress. I loved it when I tried it on, loved it on the day but do wish I had of gotten something more flowing/short/less heavy etc… more of a reception dress…”

  • “Get married earlier in the day so we had more time and not stress about the little things – on the day they really don’t matter!!”
