Sometimes you only need to lay your eyes on one single wedding photograph for you to know that what you see before you is going to be Amazing (yes, with a capital A!).

Of course you guessed right…today’s delightful destination day in Costa Rica is beyond-doubt one of those wonderful weddings and I guarantee it will have you instantly obsessed.

Reza proposed to Lia whilst on a vacation together in Costa Rica and so it seemed only right to hot-foot-it back to this little piece of paradise that they hold dear to their hearts, along with their close family and friends for their nuptials.

They held their darling day at the luxury beach resort of Reserva Conchal; ‘a spectacular resort nestled between the lush tropical forests of Costa Rica and the shimmering Pacific Ocean, with pristine stretches of ivory sand overlooking the Catalinas Islands.’ Sounds all-kinds-of-dreamy right? Well it certainly was and with a little help from wedding planner extraordinaire Weddings Costa Rica they produced a heart achingly beautiful day to remember!

Every fabulous feature is seriously swoon-worthy; the delicate combination of pretty purple hues against crisp white tones with a hint of metallic is simply perfection and Lia and Reza’s big day style complimented their modern vintage theme impeccably with Lia rocking a gorgeously graceful gown along with a stylish flower crown.

The oh-so-talented Julie of Comfort Studio was also there to capture every magical moment of this breathtaking beachside day.

Lia the bride:

“Our biggest wish was to spend as much quality time as possible with our family and friends. We wanted to make sure each guest felt special so we focused on planning an intimate gathering in Costa Rica.”

“Reza proposed to me in July 2012 in Costa Rica. We had such an amazing time we knew it was perfect for our destination wedding. There really is something for everyone. Costa Rica is a destination where you can easily relax by the pool or have an adventure surfing, touring volcanos or zip-lining.”

“I knew Costa Rica would be extremely hot in August so I searched for a light chiffon fabric. Reem Acra is one of my favorite gown designers and the dress I chose was perfect for our setting. It had the tight bodice for shape and a flowing romantic skirt that I was looking for.”

“For my hair, I had a beachy braided updo that went with my flower crown. I kept my makeup pretty classic with more drama around the eyes.”

“I found a lot of destination wedding inspiration from Pinterest and this was my most important tool in communicating my exact thoughts and ideas to our wedding planner in Costa Rica.”

“We designed our invitations online. They had large green tropical leaves that looked like they were painted by watercolor. They fit well into our Costa Rica tropical theme. A few weeks prior to the wedding, we mailed all of our guests custom beach totes and an itinerary of events to build the excitement. This was easier than lugging 75 beach totes on a plane.”

“Reza’s mother is Persian so we had a Persian ceremony. She brought most of the items that are incorporated into the special ceremony and Sofreh. She brought the silk scarf that is held over the bride and groom’s heads and sugar cones that are ground together above the scarf to shower them with sweetness. The Sofreh is a spread on a table that typically includes a mirror, candelabra, herbs, sweets, fruit, honey and etc. But we also added photos of our grandparents to the table to add an extra personal touch.”

“We added little personal touches like programs that doubled as fans, monogramed flags on our specialty drink stirrers that read ‘L&R’ along with candy heart topper on our cupcakes.”

“I love a modern vintage look: mercury glass vases, lace and chandeliers. I found a beautiful Italian lace that we used as the table runner. It felt very romantic but not overly girly.”

“We had two long wooden tables that made the reception feel like a very intimate dinner. Our planner found two beautiful chandeliers and white lights to hang above the tables.”

“I went for highs and lows of color and mixing different hues. Purple just seemed to fit perfectly within the lush green Costa Rica vegetation and dark mahogany backdrop of our venue. The flowers were peonies, lisianthus, orchids, roses, sweetpeas, freesia, statice, hydrangeas, herbs and succulents.”

What were your highlights and your favourite memories from the day?

  • “Every day in Costa Rica was absolutely gorgeous but of course on our wedding day it poured! We were supposed to be married on the beach but our planner luckily had an equally as beautiful backup location with shelter. Turns out we had even more privacy since it kept other uninvited hotel guests away.”

  • “Come dinner, the rain subsided and guests were working up a sweat dancing. The combination of heat and maybe a few drinks lead to just about 75 guests in the pool. It was really the best most memorable pool party/ wedding I’ve ever been to.”

Do you have any advice for couples that are looking to get married in Costa Rica?

  • “I would definitely hire a wedding planner since they have the inside knowledge on vendors and locations. It really made my experience less stressful. Although, you need to put a lot of faith in your planner when you can’t be there to see the flowers or do a tasting. My wedding planner really came through with every detail. I remember being completely in awe of how much of a great job she did through just a few long Skype sessions and sharing a Pinterest board. Pinterest was key!”

Do you have any wedding budget tips?

  • “We knew our budget in Costa Rica would go a long way compared to New York City. Decor, especially flowers were much more economical. We saved on the invitations by ordering them online knowing most guests do not save them. We skipped the large cake at the reception. My husband and I are not cake people so we went with a small cake for the “cut the cake” tradition and had a cupcake tower which was much more budget friendly. Our wedding party was small (two groomsman and two bridesmaids), this allowed us to buy their dresses and suits as gifts for them. And we all know bridesmaid dresses never get worn again!”

Would you do anything differently?

  • “I honestly wouldn’t change a thing!”
