If you’re getting married abroad don’t miss this week’s Friday Five, which is all about hosting a destination wedding.

Look after your gorgeous guests and be the destination wedding hostess with the mostess by following these simple top tips!

Plan ahead

As soon as you sign on the dotted line at your chosen venue and your date is officially set (eek!), get your save the date or invitations sent out. This could even be a simple email to your nearest and dearest with only these two important pieces of information on, but since your guests will need to book time off work and look at the costs for making the trip for your nuptials, the sooner you can let them know the details the better. Generally speaking, flights and accommodation are cheaper when booked in advance as there are more options, so time is of the essence.

Detailed info

Give your guests as much advice as you can, they will certainly thank you for it and detailed information will help your loved ones to see the ease of coming along to your destination day.

List the airlines that fly to your destination and which airports the flights leave from in your home country. Check if these airlines do group discounts if a large number of your wedding party will be on the same flight.

You could also book a group transfer from the airport for when you arrive at your destination, to save on costs and to make the journey easier.

Recommend hotels in the local area for varying budgets and list some of your favourite restaurants and watering holes as suggestions for your guests to try.

Go the extra mile

Be sure to plan some fun events in for your guests and create an itinerary for them so that they can imagine all of the delights that you have in store for them beyond the big day itself.

A destination wedding is a big ask and so ensuring that you communicate how thankful you are that your guests could make it, is really important. Why not put wedding welcome bags in the hotel rooms as a surprise for when everyone arrives, or host a paid for drinks soiree for the night after your wedding as a way of saying thank you?

Your guests will love it if you add some destination details to your wedding. Getting married abroad is truly unique and by showcasing the lovely local style, you will really give your guests a day to remember. Mesmerize with a menu of regional delicacies, add a little local flavour to your favours or get everyone in the dancing queen mode by booking a traditional musician.

Last, but not least, choose a venue that has the X-Factor! Your wedding party have travelled a decent distance to see you say ‘I Do’ on a faraway shore and there are so many incredible venues out there to choose from, so go for something special to make the journey really worthwhile whilst giving yourself and your guests an incredible day that they will treasure forever.
